Installing the ST:TNG Shaker Motor Kit
Before we start, the motor is not that powerful, but the weights are heavy and you really don't want them smacking your fingers or flying around. So be careful with the installation, check that everything is tight, and turn the machine off if something seems badly wrong - like a continuous shaking. We require that you take full responsibility of the installation of the kit. If you are unwilling to accept this responsibility, please arrange to return the kit for refund.
1) Check out the motor location. We recommend installing the motor on the left hand side of the machine, behind the cashbox divider and aligned left to right. The motor wiring should run between the divider and the motor. You should leave about a half inch clearance all around, to allow for installation and fitting the covers. If your machine will not allow you to use this location because of the cross member, we suggest installing behind the cross member.
2) Install the motor. Use the included template to drill 1/4" holes through the cabinet. If it makes things easier, insert the first T nut and screw to hold the template in position. Don' forget the 1/2" clearance. Use a hammer to insert the T nuts. The cabinet material is hard, and the nuts take hard blows. They should be close to the wood when done. Drawing the T nuts in with the screw will not work well, as it will damage the screw threads and bend the prongs.
3) Install the board. Attach the shaker motor harness to the smaller connector, and locate the board on the left hand side of the cabinet behind the tilt mechanism. As you may one day wish to adjust the shaker strength, place it where you can reach it with a screwdriver through the coin door. Screw the board to the cabinet wall with the screws provided. A starter hole can help. The screws are not long enough to penetrate the wall and damage the artwork, but be careful anyway.
4) Install the playfield harness. Start by placing the 6-pin connector at the bottom left of the raised playfield. Tuck the wiring into a convenient cable clip. Leave about 3 inches hanging.
6) Close the coin door with the playfield raised, and turn the machine on. The red light on the motor board indicates power. The other light will flash 3 times to indicate ST:TNG, and then it will flash the version number of the software.
7) Put the machine back together and play! The motor will run when the shields flash. If the motor shakes and all seems good, it is time to install the covers. Install them by placing the lower holes over the screw heads that hold the bottom flange to the cabinet. Bend the top flap down, and squeeze it under the top flap. Then, push it in until it snaps. It might require a moderate blow with your fist. The kit includes plastic rivets for the locking holes, but we don't think that these will be needed.
8) The controller ships with the adjustment set at the middle. Turn left for less shake, and right for more shake.
