Twilight Zone November 2006

It's TZ's second birthday, at least in my house. The machine has been in pieces in my garage since January, when I used it to develop the third magnet kit. I've finally found the time to completely go through the machine:

 - Strip mylar overlay, polish playfield, spot clearcoat door panels because of slightly raised edges on the lenses.
 - Replace all plastics, polish all topside metal, install new clear main ramp
 - Install stainless steel ramp flaps
 - Add lights and a reinforcement to the miniplayfield signs
 - Remove as much dirt from playfield backside wood as possible
 - Install a 12" subwoofer and amp
 - Add disconnects to every mechanism. New features also have disconnects.
 - Remove and strip every mechanism, tumble all metal and screws
 - Clean all coils and replace coil sleeves
 - Remove and clean light boards, clean rear of lenses
 - Cleaned, polished and checked all flipper mechs
 - Light Scotchbrite on the ball guides
 - Wiped down as much of the wiring harness as I had patience to do.
 - Sanded the inside of the cabinet
 - sanded and clearcoated the bottom of the cabinet
 - New leg plates
 - wash as much of the wiring harness as I could get to the bath
 - clean and polish cabinet metal, wiring and boards
 - New slingshot kicker switches
 - New slot machine scoop
 - Mostly new targets (so far)

Things to remember:

Mylar in ball drop areas
Finish up a few rubbers and screws
Reinstall last mechs
Fix and reinstall the clock

Here's the 12" sub and its amp. It is tapped into the 12V supply at the coin door. It has no problem keeping up with the efficient 5 1/4" speakers in the backbox, which hurt your ears at level 31. Everything is on a disconnect. The coin box area. I didn't quite get everything with my sander. Note the polished slam tilt and tilt mechanisms, and the polished flipper springs.
The Magna-Flip sign with its 18GA stainless reinforcement, and the 555 bulb riveted to the bracket.  Lamp (no bracket)  for the Battle the Power..." sign.
On the left, the new wiring- the bright yellow wires running down the left and along the bottom of the mini playfield. They are crimped into the GI supply for the lamp. And on the right, a prototype shield to keep the bulb from reflecting off of the pop bumpers. Here's a flash shot of the lamps behind the signs. The left bumper is shielded, the right is not... yet.

A couple of overall playfield shots. Note the clear ramp and stainless steel ramp flaps. The flaps are extended slightly to cover wear. I also put a small strip of mylar under the flaps.
The clock is still vacationing.

These are handheld shots, a tripod would have given better results.

This is a flash shot, so it is nice and sharp but the lights are invisible. The pop bumpers and mini playfield signs. As before, the red bumper has a light shield and the yellow needs one.
Another flash shot, you can see the stainless ramp flaps.
Some under playfield shots. Here's the back end. Note the disconnects for the solenoids, and the extra magnet on the right. The main subway.
The door panel area. And the main flippers and ball trough (ball mechs are being cleaned).
